Women's Golf 7th After First Day Of Springlake Tournament

SEBRING, Fla. - The Gonzaga University women's golf team opened its 2003 Spring Break trip to Florida with a first-round total of 333 to stand in seventh place at the 5th Annual Springlake Intercollegiate Women's Golf Tournament. The two-day event hosted by Northern Illinois University includes ten schools and is being played at the Springlake Golf Resort and Country Club in Sebring, Florida.

Gonzaga University had all five golfers finish in the 80's after the first day of competition and the Zags are 11 strokes behind Ohio University and Northern Colorado for fifth place in the event. Gulf Coast (Fla.) Community College leads the event with a team score of 313 followed by Western New Mexico at 316.

Kelsey Posedel and Kate Siddell led the quartet of Gonzaga golfers as each fired a first-round total of 81 to stand tied for 17th overall. Cathy Knutson followed with an 84 while Carrie DeGree (87) and Erin Picht (88) rounded out the Bulldogs squad. Adrian Secrest leads the individual competition with as she finished with a two-over par 74. A total of 23 golfers are within seven strokes of the lead including Posedel and Siddell.

Gonzaga will conclude the two-day event on Saturday morning and then remain in Florida for the Snowbird Classic at Pebble Creek Country Club in Tampa on March 13 and 14.
