Host Bobcats Breeze By Volleyball 3-0

BOZEMAN, Mont. - Montana State University (9-2) improved to 2-0 in their own tournament on Saturday morning as they clinched the 2003 Wingate Inn-vitational Title with a 3-0 win over the visiting Gonzaga Bulldogs (2-9). MSU won the contest 30-18, 30-23 and 30-23 and wins the tournament no matter what the Bobcats outcome on Saturday night against Marquette by virtue of head-to-head wins over Gonzaga and Wyoming. Gonzaga will face Wyoming for second place in the tournament later Saturday afternoon.
Montana State was able to control the pace of the game as they hammered home 56 kills with Meggie Malyurek and Nadine Goldi leading the way with 13 kills each. The Bobcats combined for a .269 attack percentage and finished with 21 more kills then the Bulldogs. Megan Zanto also added 10 kills to round out the Bobcats in double figures. Malyurek was also the top Bobcats defensive player with 10 digs.
Senior Abby Cullen was the offensive bright spot for Gonzaga as she finished with a team-high 12 kills on 31 attacks. The Bulldogs combined for a .112 team attack percentage after registering only 8 kills and a .000 hitting clip in the game one loss. Melissa Schickler passed out 16 assists to lead Gonzaga after taking over Emilee Gihring following the game one loss. Heather Signor led the Bulldogs defense with 11 digs to give her 1,003 for her career and making her only the 8th player in school history to eclipse the 1,000 dig barrier.
