Men's Golf Climbs On Final Day

COLORADO SPRINGS< colo.=""> Gonzaga University's men's golf team got a final round 73 from Souta Nozaka and the Bulldogs came in with a 302 on Sunday to climb out of last place and finish tied for 16th at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invite hosted by the U.S. Air Force Academy.

The Bulldogs finished with a 54-hole total of 915 to tie with Southern Colorado University and seven strokes ahead of fellow West Coast Conference foe University of San Diego.

Nozaka's 1-over par round on Sunday over the par 72, 7,301-yard Eisenhower-Blue Course moved him into a tie for 40th with a 224. Jimmy Hayes had the other solid round for the Bulldogs on Sunday with a 2-over par 74.

The University of Texas-San Antonio took the team title with an 859 for a 3-shot victory over the University of Utah. Mike Mezei captured medalist honors with a final-round 70 for a 54-hole total of 207 for a 3-shot victory over Luke Swilor of Utah.

The match was the season opener for the Bulldogs.
