SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga University junior forward Ashley Anderson will miss the remainder of the season after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament in her left knee prior to the Bulldogs game on Dec. 18 against the University of Idaho. Anderson had an MRI on Monday that revealed the tear. She will undergo surgery within the next month. The normal rehabilitation period is approximately nine months.
Anderson had started the Bulldogs first eight games of the season averaging 8.3 points and 5.5 rebounds per game while being named to the All-Tournament team at the Wells Fargo Holiday Classic earlier this season. Last year Anderson was an honorable mention All-West Coast Conference performer averaging 11.4 points per game and a team-high 6.5 rebounds per game.
"This is quite a blow for our program to lose an athlete like Ashley," mentioned GU head coach Kelly Graves. "I feel really bad for Ashley because she is such a hard worker and has developed into one of the best players in our league. We will just have to have some other players step up and fill her role for the remainder of the season."
The remainder of the season continues after the Christmas Holiday when the Bulldogs host the University of Utah on Wednesday, Dec. 29 at 7 p.m. in McCarthey Athletic Center. The Utes are ranked 25th in the latest Associated Press poll. Following the Wednesday contest Gonzaga will host the University of Denver on New Year's Eve at 1 p.m. and Sacramento State University on Monday, Jan. 3 at 7 p.m.
