Women's Tennis Falls To WCC Foe Saint Mary's

MORAGA, Calif. - The Gonzaga University women's tennis team was swept by West Coast Conference foe Saint Mary's College on Saturday afternoon as the Zags wrapped up their quick trip to the Bay Area. Gonzaga previously lost a match to WCC member Santa Clara University on Thursday afternoon. With the loss Gonzaga falls to 7-11 on the season with an 0-3 mark against WCC schools.
Saint Mary's won two of three matches in doubles action to gain an early 1-0 advantage in the set. Jamie Buterbaugh and Angela Fry teamed up to win the No. 1 doubles point with an 8-3 victory over Aude Lambert and Nicole Hunstock. Saint Mary's claimed victory in the two other doubles matches with 8-2 wins in both.
In singles play Saint Mary's won all six slots with the only Jamie Buterbaugh forcing three sets in her loss at No. 1 singles to Lambert. Buterbaugh fell 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (10-7). Sirrah Williams also had a strong performance at No. 3 singles losing 7-6 in the first game before falling 6-2 in the second game to Megan Schulman.
The Bulldogs next scheduled match is a home meet against Eastern Washington University on April 15. Start time is 3 p.m. on Martin Courts.
