CORAL SPRINGS, Fla - Gonzaga University men's golf opened the first of two spring break tournaments with a team score of 320 as the Bulldogs rest in fifth place at the Fort Lauderdale Spring Classic. Matt Munroe and Souta Nozaka each fired rounds in the 70's to pace the Gonzaga team to the fifth place standing after 18 holes of competition. Munroe finished with a 76 while Nozaka was one-stroke behind at 77.
Loyola College of Maryland leads the event after four Greyhound golfers placed in the Top 5 after the first round of 18 holes. Loyola shot a team score of 287 to hold a 15-stroke lead over second place Nova Southerneastern University of Florida. T.J. Shuart and Will Shriver lead the individual competition with each golfers shooting a 71.
Siena College and Villanova University both shot 310 to tie for third place followed by Gonzaga and Loyola University of Chicago in sixth place with a score of 335.
Other Gonzaga golfers finished the day as follows - Ryan Fritz 82, Ryan Miller 85 and John Bergren 87.
