Men's Tennis Finishes Eighth At WCC Championships

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Gonzaga University men's tennis team ended its season at 6-20 overall, defeated by Saint Mary's College in the third round of the West Coast Conference Championships, 4-0. The Bulldogs finished in eighth place in the WCC.
The Gaels won the doubles point with victories in the No. 1 and No. 2 spots. Andre Sion and Martin Marechal defeated the Bulldog duo of Bryce Cooper and Brett Womack, 8-4, at No. 1, and J.J. Whitlinger and Dino Ferrari defeated Dru Ernst and Reid Arthur in the No. 2 spot, 8-2. Since Saint Mary's already claimed the doubles point, the match between Gaels Rafeal Lopez and Adam Fauvre and Bulldogs Robert Penney and Jesse Goldsmith was left unfinished.
Saint Mary's went on to capture three-of-six singles matches in the quest for seventh place. Lopez defeated Ernst (7-6, 6-2) at No. 2, Vincent LeBorgne defeated Womack (6-3, 6-1) at No. 3, and Fauvre defeated Arthur (6-1, 6-3) at No. 4. Cooper, Penney and Goldsmith all left matches unfinished.
