Men's Golf 8th At Grand Canyon Tournament

GOODYEAR, Ariz. - Gonzaga University's men's golf team finished eighth at the Grand Canyon Thunderbird Invitational on Tuesday and Jimmy Hayes shot a final-round 71 to give him a 54-hole total of 1-under par 215 over the par 72, 7,015 yard Palm Valley Golf Course layout.

The Bulldogs finished with a 54-hole total of 871, three shots out of seventh. Cal State San Marcos captured the team title with an 838 for a 6-stroke victory over St. Martin's College.

Graham DeLaet of Boise State University posted a final-round 65 for a 54-hole total of 206 to tie Joe Rathbun of CSU-San Marcos. DeLaet won the playoff to take medalist honors.

Hayes put together rounds of 69-75-71 to finish 21st to lead the Bulldogs. Souta Nozaka, 3-under par after Monday's 36 holes, shot a 75 on Tuesday to finish at even-par 216 and in a four-way tie for 22nd.
