SPOKANE, Wash. -The Gonzaga University's women's soccer team remains unblemished on their home pitch as freshman forward Heather Horn scored the game winner at 82:39 to lift the Bulldogs (6-2-0) to a 2-1 come-from-behind non-conference victory over Idaho State University (4-2-1) Sunday at Martin Field.
For the second time this week the Zags were forced to play catch up as Idaho State struck first at the 19:11 mark. Sophomore defender Jennifer Loo controlled a right to left cross from sophomore forward Jessie Bobert and put the ball out of the reach of Gonzaga goalkeeper Ashley Haugen.
After the break the Bulldogs went on the offensive attack and it wasn't long before the Zags were back on level playing terms with the Bengals. Senior forward Annie Hawkins, recording her team leading fourth goal, corralled a pass from Heather Horn and rocketed the ball past Idaho State goalkeeper Shannon Boyle in the 61st minute.
That set the stage for Horn's heroics. At the 82:39 mark, Sarah Hawkins controlled a lead pass from freshman midfielder Jamie Blanche and slotted the ball to Horn who then hit a laser shot past Boyle lifting the Zags to their third consecutive win.
"This was a team win today," said Head Coach Shannon Stiles. "We had a key injury to our defense and all the players came together to pull off this win. I think that Lauren Zuckerman and Jamie Blanche were key for us in today's victory."
Haugen recorded six saves on the day and her counter part Boyle had two.
The Bulldogs had a slight edge in shots 11-10 and a decisive advantage in corner kicks 5-1.
Gonzaga will be back in action next week as they travel to play Montana in a 4 p.m. match on Friday and will play in an 11 a.m. match on Sunday against the University of Hawaii in Missoula, Mont.
