Women's Soccer Garners More National Attention

SPOKANE, Wash. - The Gonzaga University women's soccer team continues its upward swing in national attention as the Bulldogs have cracked into their second national poll, coming in at No. 30 in the Latest Soccer Buzz Top-30. The Bulldogs have also been recognized in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and Soccer Times Top-25 polls as others receiving votes.
Gonzaga is off to its best start in program history at 10-3-2 overall and its second best start in West Coast Conference play in program history at 1-1-1. GU has registered several program records and program firsts this season. The Bulldogs have set a single-season win streak record at seven, have recorded a program-best seven shutouts, have cracked the Top-25 for the first time in program history, debuting at No. 22 in the latest Soccer America poll, and have also cracked into the regional rankings in the Soccer Buzz and NSCAA West Region polls.
This past weekend the Bulldogs blanked No. 10 Pepperdine University, GU's first win over a top-10 team in program history, and battled to a scoreless draw against Loyola Marymount University on Sunday. In those matches senior goalkeeper Ashley Haugen recorded seven saves, five against LMU, and picked up her sixth shutout of the season, tying the program record for most single-season shutouts with six set by, herself during her freshman campaign in 2002. For her efforts, Haugen was rewarded with the WCC Co-Player of the Week award.
The 22nd-ranked Bulldogs will look to run its unbeaten streak to three this weekend with a pair of WCC home matches. The Bulldogs will host the University of San Diego in a 1 p.m. match on Friday before hosting No. 7 Santa Clara University in a 1 p.m. match at Martin Field.
