SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Sacramento State University (2-3) used a 34-5 run over the middle portion of the second half as the Hornets blew past the Gonzaga University Bulldogs (3-6) on Monday night. The game ended a swing of 9 games over the first 16 days for Gonzaga as they ended their most recent four-game road swing with a 2-2 record. Gonzaga has one more game on Saturday afternoon at the University of Utah before finally playing at home again on Dec. 18.
Gonzaga dominated play in the opening 20 minutes as they twice built comfortable leads against Sacramento State. Stephanie Hawk connected for a lay-up at the 12:50 mark to give Gonzaga an early 8 point lead. Hawk contributed again from the low post at the 2:46 mark to give GU a seven point cushion. Hawk would finish with 11 points for the Bulldogs.
Kim Sheedy hit a 3-pointer with 35 seconds left in the half to trim the Gonzaga lead to 30-28. Sacramento State hit 8-of-18 from long range for the game while Gonzaga was ice cold hitting only 1-for-13 3-point attempts.
Sheedy carried the Hornets in the second half as well scoring 10 points during the team's 34-5 run that started at the 14:55 mark after Ashley Anderson had tied the game at 34-34. Sheedy drained two 3-pointers during the run as she finished with a game high 22 points. Cindy Alldrin added 13 while Ashley Cadotte had 8 points and 9 rebounds.
Gonzaga finally ended the run with just over 5 minutes left as Katie Prichard hit a lay-up. Anderson had a team-high 13 for the Bulldogs while Simone Santos scored 10 of Gonzaga's final 13 points to finish with 10.
