Bulldogs Win To Stay Above .500

MISSOULA, Mont. - Gonzaga scored five of the final six points against UC Davis on Saturday afternoon as the Bulldogs picked up a split on day two of the Ruby's Invitational to remain above .500 on the season. Gonzaga knocked off the Aggies 24-30, 30-20, 30-23, 32-30 to improve to 6-4 on the year. UC Davis fell to 2-6 going 0-3 in the tournament. Gonzaga lost in the morning session to the University of New Mexico in five games. The Bulldogs have their home opener on Tuesday night against Washington State University at 7 p.m. in the Martin Centre.
After dropping the first game against UC Davis, Gonzaga responded with two easy victories in games two and three. The Bulldogs hits .567 in game two as they finished with a team percentage of .272. Becky Jones and Michelle Boevers were big offensive weapons for GU as each finished with 25 kills in the match, Jones connecting for a .419 attack percentage.
Lacey Bell contributed 14 kills while Kelly Steinhaus gave the Bulldogs a lift off the bench when she entered in game two. Steinhaus finished with a career-high 4 kills and had 4 block assists. Senior Jessica Herrera led a solid dig effort for GU as they had 70 digs. Herrera led all players with 18 while Jones picked up 15 to give her three straight double-doubles in the tournament.
UC Davis was led by Chantal Paschetta with 17 kills on 51 swings and .255 attack percentage. Nichole Brown had a team-high 16 digs while Jenny Pierce added 5 block assists.
