Volleyball Sweeps Second Straight Opponent

BOILING SPRINGS, NC - Hours after sweeping past Florida International University with a .312 team attack percentage, the Gonzaga University Bulldogs turned in an even better offensive performance during a three-game sweep of Morehead State University. Gonzaga finished with a .438 clip to finish off day one of the Over the Mountain Invitational in Boiling Springs, NC with a 30-12, 30-21, 30-22 win over the Eagles. With the win Gonzaga improved to 2-0 in the five team tournament and 3-2 on the season. MSU dropped to 2-2 overall.
Sophomores Becky Jones and Briawna Mueller led the Bulldogs attack with both players finishing with double-digit kills and attack percentages over .400. Jones led all players for the second straight match as she had 14 kills on 25 attacks for a .440 clip. Mueller was even more effective with 12 kills on 21 attacks for a .476 mark.
As a team Gonzaga came out blistering a .542 percent in game one only to top that with a .543 mark in game two. Gonzaga had 50 team kills and only 11 attack errors on 89 attacks. Heather Dunn passed out 36 assists for GU while Lacey Bell added five.
On the flip side, Morehead State struggled to fine any steady source of offense. Kelsey Cronin was the bright spot for the Eagles offense with 10 of the team's 30 kills. MSU finished with a .030 attack percentage. Katelyn Barbour also turned in a solid game with 21 assists, 2 aces and 9 digs.
Jessica Herrera picked up 10 digs to led Gonzaga while Mueller was the blocks leader with six. The Bulldogs return to action with two matches on Saturday against Birmingham-Southern College and host Gardner-Webb University.
