Men's Tennis Drops Two Matches To Open Season

LEWISTON, Ida. - The Gonzaga University men's tennis team faced a heavy load to open the season as they played Lewis-Clark State College and Whitman College in back-to-back matches to open the spring season on Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs dropped both matches falling to L-C State, 6-1, and Whitman, 4-3. Gonzaga returns to action next Saturday with a match at the University of Oregon.
In the Bulldogs first match against the host Warriors, senior Reid Arthur picked up the Bulldogs lone point winning at No. 1 singles over Ara Sarakissian. Arthur won the match, 6-4, 6-4. Junior Brett Womack pushed his singles match at No. 2 to three sets before falling to Borja Molas and transfer Charles Adams also lost in three sets for the Bulldogs at No. 5 singles.
In the Bulldogs second match against Whitman, Gonzaga and Whitman each won three singles points, but Whitman prevailed by winning two of three doubles matches to clinch the point. Robert Penney and Cooper Fratt won the Bulldogs lone match in doubles action, winning 9-7 at No. 3 doubles. In singles action, Marco Pineda, Fratt and Adams all picked up wins for Gonzaga.
