Men's Tennis Captures First Win

SPOKANE, Wash. - Playing a rare home match early in the spring season, Gonzaga University won all six singles matches and two of three in doubles competition as they defeated the University of Idaho to pick up their first win of the year. Gonzaga won the match 7-0 to improve to 1-5 on the year while Idaho dropped to 1-8. The Bulldogs return to action in the California Bay Area next weekend with matches at UC Davis, Sacramento State and Saint Mary's.
The Bulldogs set the tone for the match during doubles action as they won at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles by scores of 8-3. Idaho was able to win the tie-breaker at No. 2 doubles winning 9-8 after capturing the tie-break 7-5.
Gonzaga also dominated singles action with five of six Zags winning their matches in straight sets. Reid Arthur won at No. 1 singles 6-1, 6-3, followed by Brett Womack easily winning 6-1, 6-2. Marco Pineda playing at No. 3 singles was the only Gonzaga player pushed to three sets before dispatching Idahos' John Hieb, 6-3, 3-6, 7-6.
