CHENEY, Wash. - The Gonzaga University men's tennis team earned its first win of the spring season Saturday with a 4-3 victory over the University of Montana in Cheney, Wash.
Four Bulldogs earned wins in singles play to lift the Zags to a 1-3 overall record. With the loss, the Grizzles fall to 1-1 overall.
Bryce Cooper, Roman Dojcak, Marco Antonio Pineda and Charles Adams all logged victories in singles with straight sets. Cooper, playing at the No. 1 position, defeated Colin Dektar, 6-4, 6-1. Playing in the No. 2 position, Dojcak held off Raydner Ramos, 7-6, 6-4 for his first singles win of the season. Pineda earned a victory in the No. 5 position over Tim Neidhardt, 6-3, 7-5. Rounding out singles wins for Gonzaga was Charles Adams, in the No. 6 position, with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Brady Tommerup.
In the No. 2 position, Gonzaga's Brett Womack nearly up-ended Felipe Raw, but fell 7-6, 7-6, while Cooper Fratt fell to Mikolaj Borkowski, 6-4, 6-3 in the No. 4 spot.
Montana earned the doubles point, taking two of three matches. Gonzaga's duo of Pineda and Adams earned a win in the No. 2 position with a 9-8 victory over Raw and Borkowski. In the No. 1 spot, GU's Womack and Radetzky fell to Colin Dektar and Ramos, 8-6, while the Bulldogs' Cooper and Dojcak fell 8-5 to Tommerip and Neidhardt in the No. 3 spot.
The Zags will hit the courts again Sunday, when they host UC Davis in Cheney, Wash. at 9 a.m.
