The Gonzaga University men's tennis team was unable to overcome an early deficit Friday, falling 7-0 to No. 19 University of Washington in Seattle.
With the loss, Gonzaga falls to 5-7, while Washington improves to 10-3 overall.
Gonzaga dropped the doubles point to open play, falling in the No. 1 and 2 positions. At the No. 3 spot, Bryce Cooper and Roman Dojcak combined to defeat the Huskies' Holden Ching and Derek Drabble 8-5. Zack Radetzky and Brett Womack fell to Alex Slovic and Daniel Chu, 8-3, at the No. 2 position, while Charles Adams and Marco Antonio Pineda feel to Andrew Gerst and Andy Kuharszky 8-2 in the No. 1 spot.
The Zags were unable to overcome the early 1-0 UW lead, dropping all six singles matches. Cooper fell in the No. 1 position to Alex Slovic (6-0, 6-1), while Dojcak dropped the No. 2 match to Kuharszky (6-1, 6-1). Womack fell in straight sets at No. 3 to Patrick Fisher (6-0, 6-0), while Pineda held Drabble close at No. 4, but was unable to win a set (6-3, 6-4). Cooper Fratt fell in the No. 5 spot to Michael Ricks (6-0, 6-2), while Radetzky rounded out singles play with a loss at No. 6 to Gerst (6-2, 6-2).
