Cheney, Loe Pace Bulldogs Through 18 Holes

BEAUMONT, Calif. - Sophomore Derek Cheney and senior Trevor Loe paced Gonzaga University's men's golf team in the opening round of the Braveheart Classic Monday at Oak Valley Golf Course.

Cheney fired a 76 to tie for sixth and Loe had a 77 to tie for eighth after 18 holes. Brandon Crick was tied for 18th for the Bulldogs at 79. Gonzaga is fifth in the team chase at 315.

The second round was halted due to darkness and will be completed Tuesday morning, followed by the final 18 holes.

TCU holds the 18-hole lead at 307, good for a 2-stroke lead over host UC Riverside.

Nick Paez of UCR is the individual leader at 69 for a 2-stroke lead over Michal O'Brien of Cal Poly.
