HIGH SCHOOL: Earned three varsity letters in golf at Richland High in Richland, Wash...earned second-team All-Big Nine honors as a sophomore and junior...awarded first-team all-conference as a senior...named all-area as a senior...senior year finished third in points in the Big Nine District...won the Big Nine District Championships his final season...member of the State champions as a freshman and sophomore.
DEREK CHENEY[apos]S COLLEGIATE CAREER
FRESHMAN (2006-07): Participated in three tournaments with highest finish tied for 17th at North South Intercollegiate in Jacksonville, Fla., shooting second-round 72 on way to 36-hole score of 150...shot season-low 71 in first round of Wyoming Cowboy Classic...77.0 stroke average...won his inaugural Tri-City Amateur Championship in July, 2007, with a 208 for a 2-shot victory.
SOPHOMORE (2007-08): Competed in seven of Gonzaga University[apos]s nine tournament...tied for 11th at Braveheart Classic hosted by UC Riverside with a 228...low round of season was 226 at the Shootout at Angel Park hosted by UNLV...had low round of 72 twice - at Shootout at Angel Park and at Colorado-Stevinvson Ranch Invitational hosted by the University of Colorado...also shot 228 at Kauai Collegiate Cup hosted by Western Kentucky University and at West Coast Conference Tournament to tie for 22nd.
JUNIOR (2008-09): Participated in all four fall tournaments with best finish tied for 46th at Georgetown Invitational with 36-hole score of 157...had career-best low round of 69 at Kauai Collegiate Invitational...after a shaky start to open the spring season came back to post nine solid rounds including back-to-back scores of 214 to end the season...finished tied for 27th at Wyoming Cowboy Classic shooting 73-70-71 for a 214 and helping Gonzaga to season-low 54-hole score of 871 which tied for fifth-best in school history....two weeks later in the West Coast Conference Championship shot 71-73-70 for 214 to tie for fifth with teammate Kyle Huus...the 214 was the best 54-hole individual score for the Bulldogs in the WCC Championship...helped Bulldogs shoot 873 in the WCC Championship to better GU[apos]s previous WCC Championship best of 903 set in 2003, and tied for the sixth-best 54-hole score in school history...joined Huus as All-WCC selections, the inaugural picks in Gonzaga history...one of 108 NCAA Division I men[apos]s golfers to be named to the Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars by the Golf Coaches Association of America with a 3.44 GPA in marketing.
SENIOR (2009-10): Finished tied for 27th at 300 at the Washington State Golf Association Men[apos]s Amateur Championship in Pullman in June.
Misc: 3.85 high school GPA...brother Tyler plays baseball at the University of Washington.
