Incoming Freshman Parkhurst Wins Arizona Junior Title

SUPERSTITION MOUNTAIN, Ariz. - Incoming Gonzaga University freshman Kevin Parkhurst won the Junior Golf Association of Arizona Boys State Championship Wednesday.
Parkhurst, from Vail, shot a 6-under par 138 with rounds of 68-70 over the 7,151-yard, par 72 Superstition Mountain Golf & Country Club - Prospector Course. He defeated James Ardell of Scottsdale by three shots.
He had five birdies and a bogey in his opening-round 68, then posted five birdies and three bogeys in Wednesday's final round.
Parkhurst, who capped a 4-year prep career at Cienega High with a fourth straight Arizona State 4A Division I championship appearance last fall, had finished fifth in last year's JGAA Boys State Championship, six strokes off the lead.
