Verspieren Wins Consolation Title At SMC Fall Invitational

MORAGA, Calif. - The Gonzaga University women's tennis team concluded the Saint Mary's College Fall Invitational Sunday in Moraga, Calif. Sophomore Gabrielle Verspieren wrapped up the tournament winning the ITA Blue Singles Consolation draw.
Verspieren advanced the championship match after eliminating Santa Clara University's Carolina O'Haren 6-2, 6-0 in the semifinals. She defeated San Jose State University's Emily Prescott 7-6, 6-0, 1-0 (10-6) to win the title.
Sophomore Britta Stime's run in the ITA Blue Singles came to an end in the semifinals. She was eliminated by Blair Reed of the University of San Francisco 7-2 (2), 6-2. Junior Kristina Zauere was also eliminated in the semifinals, falling to Santa Clara's Kelly Lamble 6-2, 6-1 in the ITA White Singles consolation semifinals.
In the ITA White Doubles consolation finals, Zauere and senior Clare Dodge lost 8-3 to Eleanor Edles and Lauren Curry of UC Davis.
Redshirt sophomore Prue Teitzel picked up a win over the University of California's Stephany Chang 6-0, 7-5 in the Round Robin Singles.
"We did a great job of competing today," Bulldogs head coach D.J. Gurule said. "It was a tough stretch of three tournaments in a row. I was pleased with our efforts and I am looking forward to getting to work on some things."
