Chong Leads Zags To Solid First Day At ITA's

STANFORD, Calif. - Junior Zhia Hwa Chong of the Gonzaga University men's tennis team posted a pair of singles wins in the first day of the ITA Northwest Men's Regional Friday.
Chong posted an impressive 6-1, 6-0 win over Matt Erickson of Portland State University to advance to the second round of 64. Later in the day Chong defeated Eastern Washington University's Julian Sanchez 6-1, 6-0 to advance to the round of 32.
A number of other Bulldogs also posted opening round victories. Junior Jake Davis and sophomore Levin Guillermo posted wins in two sets while senior Kevin Eischen forced his match to go three sets and pick up a 2-6, 7-5, 6-1 victory. The three Bulldogs suffered defeats in the second round.
Saturday's second day of action will see the Bulldogs compete in doubles play along with a number of singles consolation matches. In addition, Chong will play in the round of 32 in singles.
