Chong Advances To Semifinals At BSU Fall Classic

BOISE, Idaho - The Gonzaga University men's tennis team returned to action at the Boise State University Fall Classic Saturday. Junior Zhia Hwa Chong highlighted day with a pair of singles wins to advance to the semifinals.
In the third round of the Blue Flight Singles bracket, Chong defeated second seed Lance Wilhelm of the Air Force Academy in three sets 6-4, 4-6, 6-4. In the quarterfinals, Chong eliminated the University of Portland's Mike Hu Kwo 6-4, 6-4 to advance to the semifinals. He will face the University of Idaho's Lachlan Reed Sunday.
In doubles action, Chong and his partner Scott Sullivan fell in the Blue Flight Doubles second round to Utah State University's Sven Poslusny and Bryan Marchant 8-4. In the Orange Flight Doubles, senior Kevin Eischen and freshman Pablo Mosquera Pérez were eliminated in the second round, falling 8-2 to Air Force's Taylor Soster and Alex Grubbs.
After being eliminated in the first round of the Orange Flight Singles main draw, Mosquera Pérez received a first round bye in the consolation bracket and opened the second round with a win over Seattle University's Kevin Lynch 7-5, 6-4. He would advance to the semifinals after defeating Idaho State University's Rodrigo Azevedo 7-6, 6-1. Mosquera Pérez will take on Gino Octa of the University of Utah.
The Boise State Fall Classic concludes Sunday.
