Men's Tennis Plays Tough But Suffers Second Day Defeat

SEATTLE, Wash. - The Gonzaga University men's tennis team returned to the courts Saturday for the second day of the PNW Intercollegiates held on the campus of the University of Washington.
Coming off an opening round victory in the Gold Draw singles Friday, junior Scott Sullivan lost in the round of 16 to Justin Guay of the University of Portland 6-4, 6-1.
Two Bulldogs competed in the Purple Draw consolation in singles. Senior Kevin Eischen, who received a first round bye, defeated the Pilots' Geoff Hernandez 3-6, 6-3, 10-8 in the round of 16 but the Paris, France native lost a three set decision to Seattle University's David Kovas in the quarterfinals.
Junior Zhia Hwa Chong, who received byes in the first two rounds, lost 6-3, 6-3 to Portland State University's Chris Rice in the quarterfinals.
In doubles play, freshman Pablo Mosquera Pérez and sophomore Levin Guillermo opened play after receiving an opening round bye in the Gold Draw. The Zags pairing lost 8-0 to the Huskies' Max Manthou and Matt Stith in the quarterfinals.
Tournament play concludes Sunday.
