Women's Tennis Impressive In 6-1 Win Over Seattle

SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga University posted a dominating 6-1 victory over the visiting Seattle University Saturday. It was the Zags second win over SU this season and was the sixth win in the last seven matches for GU.
The Bulldogs (6-2) jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, holding off a couple Seattle rallies to sweep all three doubles matches. The No. 1 pairing of Clare Dodge and Kristina Zauere led the way with an 8-6 victory to record their team-leading sixth doubles win of the season.
In singles play, the Zags claimed five of the six matches. The Bulldogs co-leaders in wins Rika Mehndiratta and Zauere each won at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively. Sophie Lantta also won at No. 4, Jackie Tabb won at No. 5 and Gabrielle Verspieren recorded her first career victory, winning at No. 6 singles 6-4, 6-4.
"I was very pleased with how we played today," stated head coach D.J. Gurule. "I thought we stayed focus throughout the day and it was very nice to see Gabby get her first win."
Gonzaga hosts University of Northern Colorado Feb. 19.
