EUGENE, Ore. - The Gonzaga University women's rowing dual with Oregon State University was delayed a several hours due to weather conditions on Dexter Reservoir, but once the Bulldogs got out on the water they had a strong showing.
The Zags won the marquee Varsity 8+ race over the No. 15-ranked Beavers squad, but OSU captured the Novice 8+, Junior Varsity 8+ and the Second Varsity 4+.
"There were big head winds," Gonzaga head coach Melissa Flint said of the delay. "The varsity had good water. The wind switched direction in the afternoon so it was rowable."
Flint was also pleased with the start to the spring season.
"It was a pretty strong performance by the varsity eight," Flint said. "It was a good start to the spring season. We now have a couple of weeks off to work on a few things."
The Bulldogs captured the Varsity 8+ in 7:11.42 for a 3-seoncd victory over the Beavers, who were timed in 7:14.51.
Gonzaga will be idle until April 2-3 when the Bulldogs will compete in the Cayuga Cup Challenge on Cayuga Lake in Ithaca, NY.
