O'Brien Wins 1,500 Meters At Duane Hartman Invitational

SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga University junior Corrina O'Brien won the 1,500 meters at the Duane Hartman Invitational Saturday in a career-best 4:45.68 to highlight the Bulldogs efforts.
She bettered her time of 4:50.29 set earlier this season at WAR III hosted by the Community College of Spokane, a meet featuring teams from Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana.
Hans Hagmeier finished fourth in the men's 800 meters in a PR 1:54.10, bettering his previous best of 1:56.74. Matt Gosselin shaved nearly three seconds off his 1500 PR, finishing sixth in 4:08.67 to improve on his 4:11.01 earlier this season.
The meet began Friday night seven Gonzaga women running career bests in the 5000 meters. Brenn Donnelly finished third in 17:39.61 with Brittany O'Regan fourth in 17:40.39 and Laura Volcheff fifth in 17:41.68. Donnelly chopped 13 seconds off her previous best, O'Regan lowered her best by 28 seconds and Volcheff erased three seconds off her former best time. Kayla Lloyd (18:17.14), Lacey Nation (18:32.08), Lauren Bergam (18:51.83) and Jaime Van Lith (19:05.22) all posted career bests.
In the men's 5000 contested Friday, Matt Bejar finished fourth in a career best 15:02.53, knocking nine seconds off his time and Chris Boyle was sixth in 15:11.23 to lower his time by seven seconds.
"We're showing improvement," Gonzaga head coach Pat Tyson said. "We have some people - especially on the women's side - who are really moving up and developing into special runners."
