Two Zags Reach Doubles Finals At BSU Fall Classic

BOISE, Idaho - Gonzaga University men's tennis players junior Levin Guillermo and sophomore Pablo Mosquera Pérez highlighted the second day of the Boise State University Fall Classic for the Bulldogs by reaching the final round of the doubles main draw Saturday.
Guillermo and Mosquera Pérez opened doubles play in the quarterfinal round of the Orange draw after receiving a bye in the first round. They edged Andrew Warren and Cody Kohlmoos of the University of Montana 8-6 and later in the day they upset the bracket's top seed, Montana State University's Prithiv Sivasubramaniam and Markus Schleuter, 8-2. They will take on Eastern Washington University's Chad Henninger and Julian Sanchez in the final round Sunday following singles play.
For the second straight tournament Guillermo took on his teammate, freshman Alvaro Nazal, in the Blue singles draw. Nazal beat his teammate again 6-1, 6-4 to advance to the semifinals where he dropped a 6-3, 6-2 decision to the bracket's top seed Andrew Bettles of the host Broncos.
In the Blue bracket, senior Scott Sullivan opened the day with a 6-1, 7-6 victory over the University of Idaho's Clint Vidano in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals against Boise State's Erik Sheldon, Sullivan dropped the first set 6-2 but after winning the second 6-4 he lost the tiebreaker 6-4.
In the Blue doubles draw, Sullivan and junior Olivier Jamin fell 8-2 to Idaho's Jake Knox and Jose Bendeck in the semifinals.
Mosquera Pérez was the only Zag to compete in the singles back draw. He posted a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Idaho's Taylor Bieberle but retired to Eastern Washington's Kyle Koetje in the semifinal round.
The doubles consolation rounds were canceled due to inclement weather.
