CHANDLER, Ariz. - Gonzaga University's men's golf team turned in a solid final round Tuesday at the Snowman Getaway Invitational hosted by Washington State University, posting a final-round 294 for a 54-hole score of 903 and 12th place.
The Bulldogs finished one stroke out of 11th and just six strokes out of 10th. The University of Missouri, with a commanding 19-stroke lead heading into the final round, had no problem cruising to the team title, shooting a final-round 281 for an 841 and a 25-stroke victory over the University of Idaho.
All five Bulldogs came in with respectable scores over the 7,163-yard, par 72 Whirlwind Golf Club Cattail Course. Freshman Peter Gullickson shot a 72 to finish 38th at 224 to pace the Bulldogs. Travis Johnsen was one stroke back at 225 after a final-round 73 to finish tied for 39th. Francis Santiago shot 75 for a 226, Kyle Huus a 76 to finish at 230 and Oliver Grabb shot 74 for 244.
Emilio Cuartero of Missouri captured medalist honors with rounds of 71-65-70 for a 206 and a 5-stroke victory over teammate William Harrold.
"It was great to see us improve again today," Gonzaga head coach Robert Gray said. "Having a 76 for our high score of the five guys is what we need to do on a regular basis and it was great to do it in just our third competitive round coming out of the winter."
Gray said the team "played more like what we are capable of. It was a great way to finish prior to heading to Bandon Dunes in a couple of weeks."
The Bulldogs will host the Bandon Dunes Championship March 11-12 in Bandon Dunes, Ore.
