Men's Tennis Drops Non-Conference Match To Vikings

VANCOUVER, Wash. - The Gonzaga University men's tennis team dropped a non-conference match to Portland State University 7-0 Sunday.
Senior Kevin Eischen and freshman Muzeen Ismath led the efforts for Gonzaga (2-5) in doubles play, picking up an 8-6 win at the No. 3 position. Juniors Scott Sullivan and Zhia Hwa Chong played through a hard-fought battle with Chris Rice and Roman Marquoulis at the No.1 spot but fell short 9-8 (4).
Sophomore Levin Guillermo, Sullivan, Eischen and Chong had strong performances in singles play. Guillermo, Sullivan and Chong each won the first set of their matches at No. 1, 2 and 4 singles, respectively, but their opponents rallied and won the next two. Eischen played a hard-fought match with Mitch Somach at No. 3 singles. Somach won the first set 7-5, Eischen bounced back and won the second 7-6 (6) but fell 1 (10-5) in the tiebreaker.
The Bulldogs return home for three matches starting with the University of Idaho Feb. 16 at 6 p.m. at the Spokane Racquet Club.
