Weather Dampens Final Round Of Bandon Dunes Championship

BANDON, Ore. - Neither the weather nor Gonzaga University's men's golf game heated up Saturday during the final round of the Bandon Dunes Championship at Pacific Dunes Course.
The Bulldogs posted their second straight 317 in Saturday's final round to finish at 946 after opening with rounds of 312-317 Friday. Gonzaga finished 14th, four strokes behind Utah Valley University in 13th place. No Bulldog broke 78 on a chilly day that also saw rain delay play and winds a constant 15 mph and at times gusting higher.
The University of British Columbia withdrew because the team had to catch a flight home.
Travis Johnsen and Peter Gullickson each shot final round 78's over the 6,798-yard, par 72 Bandon Dunes Course layout to pace the Bulldogs. Johnsen finished at 234 with rounds of 74-82-78 while Gullickson had rounds of 78-80-78. Kyle Huus shot a final-round 81 to finish at 237 after shooting 82-77 Friday.
The University of Washington, ranked 27th, captured the team title with an 871 for an 8-stroke victory over 37th ranked Pacific-10 Conference foe University of Oregon while fourth-ranked University of Florida was two more strokes back in third place.
Charlie Hughes of Washington captured medalist honors at 210 with rounds of 67-68-75 as the conditions even took their toll on the leaders. Hughes beat teammate Chris Williams by six shots, Williams with rounds of 70-72-74. The best round of the day was the UW's Trevor Simsby who shot 71 playing as an individual.
