Bulldogs Beat Portland State To Post Fourth Straight Win

VANCOUVER, Wash. - The Gonzaga University women's tennis team won its fourth-straight match Sunday, defeating Portland State University 6-1 on the final day of its two-match tour in Portland this weekend.
Clare Dodge, Danielle Farmer, Jackie Tabb and Sophie Lantta each posted a pair of wins. Farmer and her doubles partner Rika Mehndiratta put together an 8-3 victory at the No. 1 position, Dodge and Kristina Zauere did the same at the No. 2 spot and the team of Tabb and Lantta won 8-1 at the No. 3 position to complete the doubles sweep.
In singles play, Tabb finished first with a 6-1, 6-2 win at the No. 5 position and Farmer followed with a 6-3, 6-2 victory at the No. 4 spot. Dodge turned in a 6-2, 6-3 win at the No. 3 spot to clinch the match for the Bulldogs (6-9).
Teitzel and Lantta also picked up victories at the Nos. 2 and 6 spots, respectively. Mehndiratta has a battle with Portland State's (4-8) Yuki Sugiyama at the No. 1 position. Mehndiratta won the first set 6-1 but her opponent won the next two sets 4-6, 3-6.
"I was very happy with our team effort this weekend," Bulldogs head coach D.J. Gurule said. "We were really focused on leaving Portland with two wins. I thought from top to bottom our team performed at a very high level. We are looking forward to Senior Day on April 3."
The Bulldogs host Lewis-Clark State College at the Spokane Racquet Club on that day at noon.
