Men's Tennis In Moraga For ITA Regionals

THIS WEEKEND: The Gonzaga University men's tennis team will compete down in Moraga, Calif., in the Intercollegiate Tennis Associations 2012 Regionals starting Friday. The tournament is made up of one singles flight and one doubles flight. Matches will be played at the Timothy Korth Tennis Complex on the Saint Mary's College campus and the Moraga Country Club beginning at 8:30 a.m. Friday and Saturday; and 9 a.m. on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. The tournament winner automatically qualifies for the ITA National Indoor Championships in Flushing Meadows, N.Y., Nov. 8-11.
HEAD COACH PETER MACDONALD'S THOUGHTS ON THE ITA REGIONALS: "This will be a great test for us. We have had success this fall but this tournament will feature some of the best talent in the Pacific Northwest. We will need to remain calm, maintain our composure and execute on the court. I think we are confident heading into the weekend and hopefully that will reflect in our level of play."
ZAGS IN ACTION IN MORAGA: Gonzaga University men's tennis will have six Zags in action in Moraga, Calif., for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association 2012 Regionals. Representing the Bulldogs will be sophomore Alvaro Nazal, senior Olivier Jamin, senior Levin Guillermo, freshman Hayden Smith, junior Jack Schoebel and junior Pablo Mosquera Pérez. Each will compete in both singles and doubles play.
PAIRINGS IN MORAGA: Gonzaga University men's tennis will compete in both singles and doubles play at the ITA 2012 Regionals. Pairing up for doubles action will be the duos of Jack Schoebel and Olivier Jamin, Hayden Smith and Levin Guillermo; and Alvaro Nazal and Pablo Mosquera Pérez.
BOISE STATE APPLETON CLASSIC RECAP: The last time Gonzaga University men's tennis was in action was back on Oct. 5-7. Sophomore Alvaro Nazal won five matches to capture the orange flight title over Hans Hach from Abilene Christian University 6-0, 6-4. The victory was the second title Nazal has captured this fall season. Levin Guillermo dropped his opening orange flight match but rallied back to capture the orange consolation title over Charles Norman from Idaho State University.
NAZAL NAMED WCC SEPTEMBER PLAYER OF THE MONTH: Gonzaga University sophomore Alvaro Nazal was named West Coast Conference Player of the Month for September. Nazal had a solid month by capturing the Eastern Washington University Classic red flight title. The Santiago, Chile, native won four matches to be crowned winner. The award was the second time Nazal has earned the honor; he was named the 2011 September Player of the Month.
FALL SCHEDULE: Gonzaga University men's tennis will have one more tournament after the ITA 2012 Regionals. Nov. 2-4 the team will travel to Seattle, Wash., for the PNW Tournament.
