Alvaro Nazal Named WCC Player of the Month

SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Gonzaga University men's tennis sophomore Alvaro Nazal was named West Coast Conference Player of the Month for September, the conference announced Thursday.
Nazal was winner of four matches and won the Eastern Washington Fall Classic red flight title on Sept. 21-23. The Santiago, Chile, native entered the tournament as the No. 1 seed and defeated Eastern Washington's Kyle Koetie 6-1, 6-1 in the round of 16.
In the quarterfinals Nazal beat Ethan Vaughn from the University of Montana 6-1, 6-3 followed by a semifinal victory against Bulldog teammate freshman Hayden Smith 6-2, 6-3. In the final Nazal defeated another Zag senior Olivier Jamin 6-3, 6-0 to earn the tournament title.
This is the second player of the month honor for Nazal. He was previously named Player of the Month for September 2011.
The Bulldogs return to the courts this weekend as they travel to Boise, Idaho, for the Boise State Appleton Classic. The action starts Friday morning at 9 a.m.
