Men's Tennis In Action At Boise State Appleton Classic

THIS WEEKEND: The Gonzaga University men's tennis team continues the fall season by traveling to Boise, Idaho, for the Boise State Appleton Classic. The tournament will consist of an orange and a blue flight for both doubles and singles competition. Matches will be played at the Appleton Tennis Center on the Boise State Campus and Julia Davis Park north of campus starting Friday at 9 a.m.
HEAD COACH PETER MACDONALD'S THOUGHTS ON THE BOISE STATE TOURNAMENT: "Traveling to Boise is going to be another great opportunity to pick up where we left off at Eastern Washington. We know we can compete in any match and we need to go out and execute our style of play. I will also see how our doubles pairings are progressing. The work we put in now will pay off later."
BULLDOGS IN ACTION IN BOISE: Gonzaga University men's tennis will have six Zags in action in Boise, Idaho, for the Boise State Appleton Classic. Playing in the orange singles flight will be sophomore Alvaro Nazal, senior Olivier Jamin and senior Levin Guillermo. In the blue singles flight sophomore Vladimir Mijatovic, freshman Hayden Smith and freshman Vicente Varas will be playing.
The Bulldogs will also have three doubles teams battling this weekend. In the orange doubles draw the duo of Jamin and Smith with team up. In the blue doubles draw the duos of Nazal and Varas and Guillermo and Mijatovic will compete.
NAZAL NAMED WCC SEPTEMBER PLAYER OF THE MONTH: Gonzaga University sophomore Alvaro Nazal was named West Coast Conference Player of the Month for September. Nazal had a solid month by capturing the Eastern Washington University Classic red flight title. The Santiago, Chile, native won four matches to be crowned winner. The award was the second time Nazal has earned the honor; he was named the 2011 September Player of the Month.
FALL SCHEDULE: Gonzaga University men's tennis will have two more events left on the fall schedule after the Boise State Appleton Classic. Oct. 19-21 the team will travel to Moraga, Calif., for the ITA Regionals followed by the season concluding PNW Tournament in Seattle, Wash., starting Nov. 2.
