NESHANIC STATION, N.J. - Gonzaga University senior-to-be Victoria Fallgren and junior-to-be Tai Jade 'TJ' Kliebphipat will tee off Monday in the 36th U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship at Neshanic Valley Golf Course.
The facility, which opened in the fall of 2004 and features 27 holes designed by Dr. Michael Hurdzan, will use the Meadow and Lake Nines (the Ridge Nine is not being used) for the tournament which runs thru Saturday.
The field of 156 golfers will play 36 holes of stroke play Monday and Tuesday with the top 64 players advancing to match play beginning Wednesday.
Kliebphipat, who played in last year's event at Bandon Dunes in Bandon, Ore., will tee off Monday at 6:20 a.m. Pacific Time while Fallgren, who advanced to the second round of match play in 2010, will tee off 11:30 a.m. PT. Fallgren will tee off at 6:20 a.m. PT for Tuesday's final round of stroke play, with Kliebphipat teeing off at 11:20 a.m. Both players will tee off on No. 1 Monday and No. 10 Tuesday.
Fallgren will be paired both days of stroke play with Audrey Nelson of Sunbury, Ohio, who was a junior at Bryan College in Dayton, Tenn., this past season, and Cherokee Kim of DuPont, Wash., who won the Washington State Class 2A title this past spring as a junior. Kliebphipat will be paired with Candice Wiley of Shelbyville, Ky., a junior this past season at the University of Louisville, and Kaylee Imel of Bluffton, Ind., who will be a senior at Western Michigan University this fall.
The course is hosting its first WAPL.
The championship will be played over a course measuring 6,195 yards to a par of 72. Defending champion Brianna Do will not return, electing to turn pro after UCLA concluded its season. However, USA Curtis Cup Team members Tiffany Lua, Lisa McCloskey (2010 WAPL runner-up) and Emily Tubert (2010 WAPL champion) have entered and will look to add their names to the illustrious list of champions that includes Yani Tseng (currently No. 1 player in the world), Michelle Wie, Pearl Sinn and Tiffany Joh.
The Meadow will serve as the first nine and the Lake the second nine for match play. Both sides close with a par 5, with No. 18 a reachable 469-yard hole that plays uphill and requires a carry over an environmentally sensitive area, one of many throughout the two nines.
