2013 ITA Regionals Begin Friday For Men's Tennis

MORAGA, Calif. - The fall season for the Gonzaga University men's tennis team concludes this weekend with the 2013 ITA Northwest Regional hosted by Saint Mary's College at the Korth Tennis Complex.
Play begins Friday with the finals taking place Tuesday Oct. 22.
In addition to the six Bulldogs, players from Cal, Eastern Washington University, Fresno State University, University of Oregon, University of the Pacific, University of Portland, Portland State University, Sacramento State University, Saint Mary's, University of San Francisco, San Jose State University, Santa Clara University, Stanford University, UC Davis, University of Washington and Washington State University make up the field.
The tournament opens with the rounds of 128 and 64 on Friday.
Nick Kamisar opens against Nikohil Jayashankr (Cal) and if victorious will face Tumas Manner in the round of 64. Hayden Smith faces a West Coast Conference foe in his opener. Smith will battle Ilya Osintsev (Santa Clara) 10:15 a.m. Friday.
Like Kamisar, Joey Brandt will see a Cal opponent to start his weekend. Brandt is set to play Mads Engsted. If Vicente Varas defeats James Wade (UC Davis), he will face also face a Cal opponent, ninth seed Andrew Goransson. Jack Schoebel opens with Adam Levie (UC Davis).
Vladimir Mijatovic is the lone Bulldog with an opening round bye. He will have his first match Friday afternoon against the winner of Adam Luba (UC Davis) and Justin Guay (Portland).
Gonzaga will also have three doubles teams in action.
Smith will pair up with Schoebel to face Daniel Alameh and Denis Stolyarov (Pacific) in the opening round of 64. Varas and Mijatovic will work together as they open against James Markiewics and Mathias Olsen (Saint Mary's). Brandt and Kamisar will face Sam Bloore and Thomas Hunt (Saint Mary's).
All doubles matches begin Saturday.
