NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - Gonzaga University was one of four teams that had a player remaining on the course when play was suspended Monday due to darkness at the Bill Cullum Invitational hosted by Cal State Northridge at Wood Ranch Golf Club. In addition to the Bulldogs, Cal Poly, Southern Utah University and Utah State University still had a player on the course. The golfers, which include Zag senior Peter Gullickson, will tee off at 7:45 a.m. Tuesday. The final round will begin with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. The Bulldogs shot an opening-round 1-over par 289 on the 6,819-yard, par 72 layout. When play was halted Gonzaga was tied for 11th place at 10-over par. The University of San Diego holds a six-shot lead over Arizona State University at 557. "As a team we played really good golf for the first 27 thru 33 holes, where we were 5-under par as a team," explained Gonzaga head coach Robert Gray. "The last 5 thru 9 holes were a colossal disaster. We played those holes 16-over par in good conditions. It's disheartening when you work so hard to get in a good place then let it all slip away on the final holes. It's been a thorn in our side all season. " Gonzaga's James Fahy and Sean Walsh have both finished 36 holes and both are even par. Fahy shot a first round low 3-under par 69, followed by a 3-over 75. His first round was highlighted by four birdies and only one bogey. "James struck the ball very well the first round, hitting 16-of-18 greens," stated Gray. "He had a lot of opportunities to shoot lower but the putts didn't fall. The second round he hit 13-of-28 greens and only got it up/down once of the five missed greens." In contrast to his first round, Fahy had two birdies and five bogeys. Walsh shot an even-par 72 each round. He posted five birdies for the opening round with eight pars, three bogeys and one double bogey and had an eagle, two birdies, two bogeys and one double-bogey in the second round. "Sean also played better then his scores but a couple of double bogies on par 5's kept him out of red numbers." Gullickson shot a 1-over par 73 in the opening round and is currently 3-over par in the second round with the 11th hole to play tomorrow. Junior Brendan Connolly shot a 3-over par 75 in each round and classmate Erik Krzyzanowski carded a 4-over par 76 in the opening round and a 6-over par 78 in the second 18-holes. "Tomorrow is our last competitive round of the fall season," said Gray looking towards Tuesday's round. "It would be great to go out tomorrow and play all 18 holes the way we're capable of playing."
