BREMERTON, Wash. - Peter Gullickson shot a final-round 2-under par 70 and James Fahy a 1-under 71 Tuesday and Gonzaga University finished 12th at the 2013 Kikkor Golf Husky Invitational hosted by the University of Washington at the Olympic Course at the Gold Mountain Golf Complex.
Fahy, a junior from Vancouver, B.C., tied for 15th overall at 217 with rounds of 71-75 in Monday's opening rounds to go with Tuesday's final-round 71. Gullickson, a senior from Spokane, tied for 28th after first-day rounds of 72-78 to go with Tuesday's 70.
"James posted another good round and was solid for us the whole event. He's off to a very nice start to the year," Gonzaga head coach Robert Gray said. "Peter played great on our first nine (started on No. 10), turning at 3-under. He dropped back to even after the first three holes on the front but did a great job battling back to 2-under for the day. That's a great example of sticking with it and allowing yourself to post a good number."
Overall, Gray thought the Bulldogs performed much better Tuesday, although the fourth score is something he said needs to improve.
"We did a better job of staying in the present and minimizing mistakes today," Gray noted. "Our fourth score was an issue the whole week. We need to be better with that score."
Following Fahy and Gullickson for the Zags were sophomores Sean Walsh tied for 41st at 222 (75-72-75) and Sean Carlino 67th at 233 (75-78-80), with junior Brendan Connolly 73rd at 251 (81-88-82).
Freshman Charles Gal, playing as an individual at the Cascade Course, finished 46th in that event with a 238 (77-81-80).
The Zags had a 54-hole score of 892 for 12th place, one stroke ahead of West Coast Conference foe Pepperdine University. The host Huskies took team honors with a 54-hole score of 847 for an easy 18-stroke victory over Arizona State University, with Washington's Cheng-Tsung Pan claiming medalist honors with a 205 with rounds of 68-70-67 for a 6-stroke edge over a pair of golfers.
The Bulldogs will play their third tournament in as many weeks next Monday and Tuesday when they travel to the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational at Colorado National Golf Course in Denver. The tournament is hosted by the University of Colorado.
