SPOKANE, Wash. (September 20, 2013 - www.GoZags.com) - Junior Alvaro Nazal entered the Baylor University HEB Intercollegiate as the sixth-ranked singles player and lived up to the billing in the Gold Draw.
In his opening contest, the Gonzaga University men's tennis star, ousted Baylor's Vincent Schneider 7-6 (3), 7-6 (4) to move on to the round of 16. Nazal was scheduled to face Brian Page (University of Illinois) but rain forced all matches indoors resulting in second round matches being moved to Saturday.
Also in the Gold Draw is Bulldog newcomer Nick Kamisar. The University of Washington transfer put up a gutsy performance in a 6-3, 6-4 defeat to Hamid Derbani of Laredo Community College.
Kamisar is set to compete in the consolation draw and will face Carlos Arbiza Saturday.
The third Zag in action was sophomore Vicente Varas who is playing in the Green Draw. Varas had a bye in the round 32 and faced Javier Perez for his first match. Varas would be victorious and take the match 6-2, 6-3.
Kamisar and Varas teamed up for a morning doubles match. However the duo fell to Odon Barta and Artemiv Nikitin (University of Idaho) 8-4.
