Vicente Varas Advances To Finals At Baylor

WACO, Texas - Riding his opening day win, Gonzaga University men's tennis sophomore Vicente Varas continued to impress at Baylor University's HEB Intercollegiate with two victories Saturday and now has chance to clinch the Green Draw Championship Sunday.
Varas breezed through Javier Perez of University of Texas at Arlington's 6-2, 6-3 in his first match of the day to advance to the semifinals. The Sammamish, Wash., native continued to play confidently in his next match against Cristobal Ramos (University of Idaho).
A decisive 7-5, 2-6, 6-0 win booked Varas into the Finals where he will face Arturo Pinazo (Laredo Community College) for the title Sunday.
Alvaro Nazal's lone match of the day came against Brian Page of the University of Illinois in the round of 16 in the Gold Flight. It took three sets but Page got the better of Nazal 4-6, 6-1, 6-1.
In the consolation Gold Draw, Nick Kamisar took on Blake Bazarnik (Illinois) only to come up just shy. Kamisar lost 6-2, 6-1.
The Baylor HEB Intercollegiate wraps up Sunday.
