
WBB Drops First Game of the Season

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The American University women's basketball team grabbed its first victory of the season with a 59-56 win over Gonzaga University in the third game of the South Point Thanksgiving Shootout Friday.
The Eagles (1-3) rallied from a 25-19 halftime deficit and held Gonzaga to 2-of-12 shooting from behind-the-arc. The Zags finished the game 35 percent from the field, while American was 22-for-54 (40 percent).
Michelle Holmes led AU with 15 points and eight rebounds. She made six of her 12 attempts from the field. Shaquilla Curtis added 10 points. Jen Dumiak dished out a game-high six assists.
Sunny Greinacher scored a game-high 18 points, making 6-of-14 from the field. Shelby Cheslek recorded a double-double of 13 points and 14 rebounds. Her rebound total matched her career high. Keani Albanez chipped in 15 points.
In a game that featured seven lead changes and four ties, the Bulldogs led for 28 minutes and their largest lead was seven points. GU had a 44-30 advantage in rebounds, but turned the ball over 16 times. American committed 12 turnovers. The Eagles outscored Gonzaga in the paint, 32-28.
