
WBB Wins with Last Second Shot

CHENEY, Wash. - Elle Tinkle's last second shot from the baseline gave Gonzaga women's basketball a dramatic 61-60 road win at nearby Eastern Washington Wednesday.
The Zags (4-2) halted their first two-game losing streak in seven years, and extended their win streak over EWU to 11 games. The Eagles rallied from a 10-point deficit to take the late lead, before Tinkle's game-winner. After appearing in 72 games in her Gonzaga career, Tinkle made her first career start Wednesday.
Sunny Greinacher was two points shy of her career-high with 22 points. The senior made eight of her 14 shots from the field and 6-of-7 from the free-throw line. She was also two rebounds from her career-high. The Essen, Germany native finished with 12 rebounds. Keani Albanez added 11 points. Shelby Cheslek grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds.
The Bulldogs made 40 percent of their shots from the field, while EWU was 32 percent. GU was 17-of-21 from the free-throw line and the Eagles were 23-for-26.
The game featured six ties and eight lead changes. The Zags had an early 13-8 advantage, but EWU rallied and took a 20-19 lead with 2:21 left in the first half. Gonzaga led 25-22 at halftime. The Zags opened the second half on a 7-0 run to take a 10-point lead.
The game's largest margin was 10 points. Gonzaga led 55-45 with 6:50 remaining in regulation before the Eagles countered with a 9-0 run. Eastern Washington had a 60-59 lead after a Delany Hodgins jumper with 1:25 left in the game. Tinkle then made a key steal with five seconds left to give the Zags one final chance.The next play ended with Tinkle's winner.
Hayley Hodgins led Eastern Washington (3-3) with 17 points. She made 9-of-10 from the free-throw line. Delany Hodgins and Lexie Nelson contributed 13 and 11.
