
Seven Bulldogs Named WCC Tennis All-Academic

SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Gonzaga University tennis players Muzeen Ismath, Vladimir Mijatovic, Kylie Peek and Melanie Yates were all named to the 2014 West Coast Conference All-Academic Team, announced the league Thursday.
In addition, Pablo Mosquera Pérez, Jack Schoebel and Alexandra Tallas were all recognized with honorable mention accolades.
Ismath, a senior from Winnipeg, Manitoba, carried the highest GPA of the Gonzaga men named on the list. With a 3.65 GPA, Ismath will graduate in May with a Biology degree. The senior ended the year with eight singles wins and nine in doubles.
Mijatovic is a business major with a 3.51 GPA. During the season the junior split time playing in the top two slots of the Zags lineup. He finished the year with 13 singles wins, five coming at No. 1, and 11 doubles wins.
Peek picks up her picks up her second All-Academic accolade after being named a recipient last year. The junior maintained a 3.90 GPA in public relations while playing in the top position for the Zags. Peek tallied a combined 16 wins in singles and doubles.
Yates, a sophomore, earned the academic honor for her 3.87 GPA in biology. On the court she held an 11-7 singles record, including an 8-2 mark at No. 4, and eight doubles wins.
Mosquera finished an even 11-11 in singles matches this year while notching 10 wins in doubles. The senior is a journalism major and is set to graduate in May with a 3.46 GPA.
Schoebel is a former walk-on who developed into a regular player for the Bulldogs. The senior will also graduate in May with a 3.23 GPA in business. He finished the year with 10 singles and 10 doubles wins.
Tallas, an honorable mention honoree last year, holds a 3.72 GPA in sociology. This year she put together an 8-6 spring singles record to go with nine doubles wins.
At the conclusion of each athletic season, the WCC selects 12 student-athletes to the men's and women's all-academic squad to mirror the all-conference teams. To be nominated, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.320 cumulative GPA based on the most recent completed term at the time of the nomination, be at least a sophomore in both academic and athletic standings, and prove to be a significant contributor to his/her team.
