
Walsh and Fahy Compete at Canadian Amateur

TORONTO, Ont. -- Current Gonzaga men's golfer Sean Walsh, and recently graduated James Fahy, completed play at the 111th Canadian Men's Amateur Championship Thursday.
The championship, played at the Weston Golf and Country Club and the Lambton Golf and Country Club, had a field of 120 golfers, and the duo from GU both finished in the top 65. The Weston course played 6,808 yards, while Lambton was 7,005 yards, and both were par-72.
Walsh, an upcoming senior, tied for 30th at four-over-par (291). His fourth and final round was his best at one-under (71). The Keller, Texas native played consistent rounds of 72, 74, 74, and 71. After having eight birdies through his first three rounds, he carded five in his final 18 holes. Walsh tallied 44 pars through the 72-hole tournament, which tied for 25th in the field. He was four-under on par-five holes.
Fahy was 12-over (299) and tied for 64th. After back-to-back par finishes in the first two rounds, he was 10-over in the third. The Vancouver, B.C. native completed the tournament with a 73 (+1). He played the back-nine in the fourth round at three-under. Fahy also had 13 birdies through the 72 holes, with five coming in the second round. He had 39 pars and was two-under on par-five holes.
Former Clemson golfer, Billy Kennerly cruised to medalist honors. He finished six strokes ahead of the field and topped the leaderboard at 12-under (275). He carded 68 in his first two rounds, followed by a 69 and a 70. Kennerly had 18 birdies to just six bogeys. Three golfers finished in second at six-under.
Walsh travels to Olympia Fields, Ill., for the U.S. Amateur Championship. The tournament begins with two rounds of stroke play Monday. He will tee off at 6 a.m. Pacific Time.
