USTA/ITA Northwest Championship Draws
BERKELEY, Calif.-Mother nature once again dominated the USTA/ITA Northwest Regionals Sunday, wiping out consolation play during the regional championship tournament. As such, the members of the Gonzaga men's tennis team did not play any of their scheduled matches.
This is the third weather-impacted day of the tournament. Play moved entirely indoors on days two and three, and only one round of singles play occurred on Friday rather than the scheduled two.
"It was unfortunate that rain was a factor in this tournament," said Gonzaga men's tennis assistant coach Derek Siddiqui. "However, I saw a lot of improvements in singles and especially in doubles. The guys learned a lot about themselves and what needs to improve. This was an eye-opener for them, as they saw the amount of work that needs to be put in both mentally and physically."
Only the tournament's main bracket matches will be played Sunday with both doubles and singles play moving indoors to the Broadway Tennis Center in Burlingame, California.
The Zags now return home and prepare for their own Bulldog Classic, which will take place Oct. 28-30 at The Stevens Center in Spokane.
