SPOKANE, Wash. -- Gonzaga University Athletic Director Mike Roth announced Wednesday that the contract of women's soccer Head Coach Amy Edwards has not been renewed. GU's Senior Associate Director of Athletics Shannon Strahl will initiate a search for her successor.
"We have great respect for Coach Edwards and want to thank her for leading our women's soccer program for the last eight seasons," Roth said. "She has made great contributions to our University and our program, and we wish her the best."
Edwards spent eight seasons as head coach of the Gonzaga women's soccer program and compiled a 55-86-13 record. This past season, the Zags finished 6-10-2 overall and 2-7-0 in the West Coast Conference. Edwards' career record is 102-111-19, after four seasons at Tulsa from 1995 to 1998.
"I want to thank Mike Roth and Shannon Strahl for the opportunity to lead the women's soccer program the past eight years," Edwards said. "I wish the players, the program and Gonzaga all the best in the future."
Edwards' 55-win total at Gonzaga ranks as the second most in program history. She has coached six All-West Coast Conference First or Second Team selections, and seven Academic All-Conference Team selections. Under her guidance, Gonzaga has earned the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Academic Team Award for eight consecutive seasons after posting a 3.49 GPA over the 2015-16 school year.
Edwards was a four-year starter at Tulsa from 1988-92 serving as team captain all four seasons. She earned All-America honors as a senior. She earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Tulsa in 1992 and a master's degree in education from Tulsa in 1997.
