Volleyball Falls in Three to Pacific

Chapin Gray leads squad with eight kills
SPOKANE, Wash. – The Gonzaga volleyball team fell to visiting Pacific in three sets (25-14, 28-26, 25-20) Thursday evening at the Martin Centre.
Gonzaga (8-17, 5-9) was paced by eight kills from Chapin Gray on 15 swings to hit .400. Tiyana Hallums led the defensive effort with 12 digs while Jenna Kuehn and Faith Smith added 14 assists each.
Pacific (11-14, 6-8) outhit the Gonzaga, connecting on 59 kills hitting at a .289 clip compared to the Zags' 34 kills at .200. After dropping the first set 25-14, the Bulldogs battled in the second as the set featured 13 ties and four lead changes. The Bulldogs hit .326 in the second, due in part to five kills from Sarah Penner. Gonzaga thwarted two Pacific set points in the second, but a kill from the Tigers secured the 28-26 set win.
Coming out of the break, the Bulldogs hitting slowed down a bit as did their accuracy on serve receive; three of Pacific's four service aces came in the final set. Gonzaga fell behind by five (17-12) and battled back to within two (19-17), but the Tigers finished the set with four kills and an ace to claim the 25-20 set win and 3-0 match sweep.
The Bulldogs are back in action Saturday, Nov. 10 against Saint Mary's at 12 p.m. in their final home match of the season. Gonzaga will honor its six seniors, Tiyana Hallums, Faith Smith, Kaylie Loewen, Marit Thorkildsen, Peighton De Von and Perry Ramsey, prior to the start of the match.
