
Men's Golf Finishes in Seventh at Bandon Dunes Championship

BANDON, Ore. -- The Gonzaga men's golf team finished in seventh place at the 2018 Bandon Dunes Championship. The Zags were led by a 22nd place finish from Ben DuBois. GU hosted the ninth annual event on the Pacific Dunes Course at the Bandon Dunes Golf Resort.
The Zags were four-over (288) in the third and final round. Gonzaga had a team total of 855 (+3) in the tournament.
"Another great effort by the team today," GU Head Coach Robert Gray said. "With the wind picking up, the course played tough the final third of the round and the team played well down that stretch of holes."
DuBois tied for 22nd at one-over (214). The senior was even par (71) Tuesday. He made three birdies and eagled Hole 1. He was one of only three golfers to finish with a pair of eagles in the event.
"Ben was consistent all week, never shooting over 72," Gray said.
David Ganz and Nick Nolan both tied for 26th at two-over (215). Ganz had the Bulldogs' lowest round of the day, carding at 69 (-2). He made five birdies and 10 pars, going one-under on the front and back nine. Nolan was one-over (72) in the final round. He went two-under on the course's front nine.
"After an uncharacteristic first round, David posted two great rounds to finish out the event, including his final round 69 in tough conditions and moving up 22 positions," Gray said.
Tyler Munetake finished with a team-high 34 pars in the tournament. He tied for 37th with a three-day total of 217 (+4). The junior was five-over (76) in Round 3. He finished with three birdies and 10 pars in the final round. Playing as an individual, Holden Backes tied for 41st at five-over (218). The freshman was seven-over (78) Tuesday.
Matthew Ruel was six-over (77) in the third round and placed 68th. He finished the tournament at 13-over (226). Chris Mogg (+25, 238) had his best round of the event on the final day, going five-over (76) and placing 81st. Charlie Magruder was 83rd at 29-over (242). He was seven-over (78) in Round 3.
Arizona State took the team title behind Chun An Yu's medalist finish. He was 13-under (200) in the tournament and edged out Washington State's Derek Bayley by one stroke. Turk Pettit of Clemson was third at 11-under (202). Clemson placed second as a team at 15-under (837). ASU finished 28-under (824).
Gonzaga has a break before the Wyoming Cowboy Classic on April 9-10. The tournament will be played on the Whirlwind Golf Course in Chandler, Ariz. Live scoring will be available on GoZags.com.
