PINEHURST, N.C. - The weather was the main opponent again on Thursday at the Pinehurst Women's Intercollegiate at Pinehurst #8, as only five players had scores in the 70s.
GU held onto their fourth place positon and are +89 after two days. Nina Novilla is leading GU after firing an 81 on Thursday, as she sits tied for eighth at +21. Jessica Mangrobang and Francesca Santoni are just five spots back in 13th at +22, after shooting an 81 and 83, respectively, on Thursday. Jena Gao shot an 82 and is in 21st at +25.
Novilla and Mangrobang had one birdie and Santoni had two as they were hard to come by on Thursday.
"Today was another brutally hard day," Gonzaga head coach Brad Rickel said. "We had a frost delay and the temperature was 28 degrees when we teed off. Wind was as high as 30 mph and made it extremely hard again. Getting a ball on the green is very hard to do with this hard of a wind."
Eastern Kentucky leads the field at +60 and Ragga Kristinsdottir of EKU is the leader at +11. Santoni leads the field at +1 on par-five holes and Gao is second going +1 on par-three holes.
The teams will finish the tournament tomorrow. Live links are available on GoZags.com.
